I would like to call Leafbirds as my inspiration towards birding. Being in the city, I would only see Mynas and Pigeons. But on one trip to Jungle Lodges in BR Hills, a leafbird came and sat next to our eating area.
As I saw it jumping around, the beautiful grass-green colour immediately struck me as something that is bright but can blend with its surroundings. When it went into a tree, it was almost indistinguishable. What a beautiful creature!
There are many species of leafbirds. One of them is the Jerdon's Leafbird. Its name honours Thomas C Jerdon, who was a pioneering ornithologist and biologist.
The male has a dark blue throat patch outlined by a thick black border. Female has a pale blue throat with no dark border.
