We were strolling along the banks of a lake in Thiruvanamalai. Under a hanging tree, we saw a white-throated kingfisher fighting with herons for the best catch of fish. The herons drove away the kingfisher from the spot, but not before it had caught a silvery fish in its beak.
The white-throated kingfisher has a large head and is mostly brown in colour. It has a cyan back and wings along with a pinkish beak. It also has a pure white patch from the throat to the breast earning it its name.
