02

Woodpeckers are part of the family Picidae. They have strong beaks and a shock-resistant head to bore holes in the tree to catch insects. They also have a sticky tongue to catch insects like a frog. There are 12 known species of woodpeckers in India. They can be around 7 cm to 50 cm! The most common woodpecker in the Western Ghats is the Flame back woodpecker. Himalayan woodpecker is one of the most shy woodpeckers.
